Join us at the Shops at South Town for breakfast and a panel discussion on the transformation of malls and big box retail.  As consumer shopping habits are changing, shopping centers are increasingly open to entertainment options.  We will explore this trend and see how traditional malls are adapting.

Gary Karl, COO of Pacific Retail

Mr. Karl joined Pacific Retail Capital Partners in 2008 bringing to the firm over 25 years of experience in shopping center asset management and operations. At Pacific Retail he applies his vast experience to overseeing the firm’s retail property asset management and shopping center operations including all leasing activity and property management. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Karl was Executive Vice President at Madison Marquette where he reorganized and stabilized the asset management and leasing structure in the western division during a period of strategic change in the company.

Nicole Vanlaecken, Senior Leasing Director at Woodbury Corporation

Nicole J. Vanlaecken is a commercial real estate leasing professional with over 22 years of experience in account management and leasing of shopping centers, mixed use developments and office space across the US.  She currently holds the title of Senior Leasing Director for Woodbury Corporation here in Salt Lake City and is directly responsible for the leasing of the Woodbury legacy property, University Place in Orem.  In addition to University Place, she is responsible for leasing over 3M sf of GLA throughout Utah and Idaho.

Brian Landru, Director of National Accounts at Phillips Edison & Company

Brian Landru is on the National Accounts Team with Phillips Edison & Company (PECO) overseeing Portfolio Reviews with retailers headquartered west of the Mississippi River. Prior to the transition to the National Accounts Team in 2016, he worked four years as a Leasing Professional leasing centers in eight different states within the PECO portfolio. Prior to Phillips Edison, he worked a year of brokerage for The Shopping Center Group in Kentucky.

Nick Duerksen, Economic Development Director of Sandy City

Nick Duerksen is the Economic Development Director of Sandy City and Director of the Redevelopment Agency of Sandy City.  He is a graduate of Utah State University and has worked for Sandy City for 25 years.  Nick has extensive experience in land development and negotiations. Major developments include Jordan Commons, the South Towne Expo Center, and Rio Tinto Stadium, inContact, Scheels, Hale Center Theatre, East Village and Mountain America Credit Union corporate headquarters.

*Meeting will be held in the Dining Terrace.  The entrance is located on the North side of the shopping center between JCPenney & Forever 21
